Ending of Weekly Meetings

Everything in life has a beginning and an ending. We enjoyed our time working with Singles here at Sanctuary, but we need to devote our time elsewhere. Sanctuary Singles will no longer be meeting on a weekly basis.

We encourage Singles to join the church in its many other activities and ministries. Thank you again for the privilege of spending time with all of you.

As the year ends, Amy and I want to thank all the Singles who were involved with Sanctuary Singles in 2010. It was a blessing to minister with all of you, to share our lives, and to learn more about our Lord.

Mini Golf warfare!

Last Saturday we went to Castle Park for a round of miniature golf. Weather conditions included some wind, but us professionals know how to compensate for that during play. The scores were close, with some truly spectacular moves. (I wish I had a video of John’s victory dance when he got a hole-in-one!)

Rod Quotes on Marriage

Last Sunday Pastor Rod started a new series called Marriage Matters. Below is Rod’s Sunday night blog, reviewing all the points for Singles:

“Today we kicked off our new series on MarriageMatters.com I loved the “wedding” ceremony.

I have been processing messages for the series for about a month, and barely had time to squeeze in all the points today. In case you missed it, here are some of the points for singles who are considering getting married…

DON”T GET MARRIED IF…

1. You are settling for a fixer-upper relationship. Don’t cave in and settle for “good enough”. No digging through the dumpsters out of desperation.

2. Don’t get married if you have to continually defend the relationship. When you best friends and family are telling you that this is NOT “The One”, its time to listen.

3. Don’t get married if you are not spiritually connected. God is very clear in His word that christians and non-christians should not date. (II Cor. 6:14-15)

4. Don’t get married if you hope that marriage will change the person. You are not going to change anybody. Ladies, slackers will remain slackers. Your best intentions will not change him. Dump him asap.

5. Don’t get married if your gut is telling you to end the relationship. The Holy Spirit is trying to break through your defenses. Listen to Him! Greater things are in store for you.

6. Don’t get married if find yourself trying to bargain with God. If God says its wrong, then He is not going to change His mind.

7. Don’t get married if you have unrealistic expectations. Marriage will not fill the void that only Jesus can fill.

8. Don’t get married if the relationship is based on sex. It will only make life more complicated. Jesus said sex before marriage is wrong.

I really wanted to encourage the singles and if you missed today, you need to listen to this messaage.”

We had a great time at Scandia Amusement Park, though the competition was intense! Thankfully, miniature golf is not a contact sport (though Tackle Golf might be interesting…) Actually, we had a fun time golfing, followed by ice cream.

Warning Lights

I once played a game with a friend where we tried to find the “spiritual application” of everyday things that we passed on the road. (Yeah, we were kind of bored on that trip.) What is the spiritual lesson in a guard rail, a particular billboard, an odd bumper sticker, a broken windshield, and so on. We kept it up for a good 10-15 minutes. Well, here is my latest: the spiritual significance of a car warning light.

Both of our cars had their warning lights go on, telling us it was time for an oil change. One has been taken care of, the other is still waiting…

How often have I ignored God’s warning lights in my life? At first that light bothers me, making me feel guilty. “I have to get the oil changed.” But if I ignore it, in a little time I will hardly notice its yellow glow. I can see that stupid light as a nuisance, but it really is a help. Ignore the warning too long and see serious things can go wrong. In the same way, the Holy Spirit will often give me warning when I need to change something in my life.

Well, now I feel guilty again. Maybe I’ll finally bring that car in for its oil change next week…

March Events

This month we will be doing the following activities:

Ice Cream Social (all church) on 3/14 join us at the Yucaipa Community Center, where the women’s ministry will hold a silent auction to raise money. It should be lots of fun, especially the ice cream.

Miniature Golf on Sunday the 21st, don’t miss our great golf tournament at Scandia Amusement Park in Ontario. Time 1pm. Price: $9.95 Park is right off the I-15 Freeway, Jurupa Exit, just south of the I-10 Freeway.

We had a great time last Saturday February 13th, watching the Ontario Reign battle the Stockton Thunder. The Reign worked hard, but still lost 2-3. It was a good time to build friendships (and see how to fight on ice skates).
